Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive manual therapy that releases deep tensions and restrictions in the body, relieving pain and dysfunction and improving overall health. CST focuses on the craniosacral system, which are the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord. Every day your body endures stresses and strains, and your structures work to compensate for them. Unfortunately, these changes often cause body tissues to tighten and distort the craniosacral system, which can then cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord. The result is a barrier to the healthy performance of the central nervous system, and potentially every other bodily system, as the central nervous system is the governing system of the body. By freeing tension and creating balance in the craniosacral system and the surrounding tissues, CST can create harmony and ideal functioning throughout the entire body.

CST also creates profound, lasting change by shifting the nervous system into its optimal state. Most people in our society are stuck in a sympathetic nervous system state. This is the "flight or fight" state, which is triggered by stress and trauma. In the sympathetic state, our body is not functioning at its optimal state. It is instead devoting its energy to the threat it believes is coming, releasing cortisol and preparing to fight. Tension, increased inflammation, and general dis-ease are often the result. CranioSacral techniques aim to move the nervous system from sympathetic function into parasympathetic function (aka "rest and digest"). This parasympathetic state decreases inflammation, promotes internal peace, and allows the body to resume its natural healing and regenerative processes. CST gives your body the opportunity to do what it was meant to do; heal and thrive.

Infertility, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Healing

CST is a powerful tool to use before, during and after the pregnancy journey. CST can help increase and even restore fertility for those unable to conceive. Infertility is, sadly, and increasingly common condition in today's age. Most interventions are invasive and extremely expensive. However, in recent years, CST has been doing wonders in restoring fertility to men and women. CST can free deep physical restrictions in the body that could be affecting fertility, such as a misaligned pelvic structure, tipped uterus, or twisted fallopian tubes. CST can also reduce stress and promote peace internally, signaling to your womb that the timing is right for conception, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and raising your child in a safe environment.

Once a woman becomes pregnant, CST is an incredible tool to make the child-bearing process more comfortable. CST a safe and effective way to relieve common discomforts during pregnancy, such as back pain, headaches, nausea, pelvic imbalance, edema and fatigue. CST can help create a smoother and quicker labor process by preparing the pelvis, releasing restrictions, helping the baby get into the correct birthing position, and facilitating communication between mother and baby.

CST can also be a wonderful tool in the postpartum healing process. Through supporting the body's natural healing processes, CST can help restore tissue health, minimize scarring, and help with other physical and emotional challenges that might follow delivery.

Concussion, TBI, and Spinal Injuries

Concussions are a common and often grave injury experienced by a large percentage of the world. Blunt trauma to the brain and head can cause lasting and sometimes debilitating consequences. CST is a remarkably effective tool in addressing and relieving the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome and other Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and spinal injuries, whether that be headaches, neck pain, nausea, dizziness, etc. CST techniques reduce inflammation by bringing the nervous system into parasympathetic function. It also frees fascial and dural tube restrictions, creating fluid flow within the cranium and spinal cord. These effects can create profound and lasting healing effects for those suffering from brain and spinal injuries.

Developmental and Behavioral Challenges

Children and young adults respond very well to CST treatment, particularly for developmental and behavioral challenges such as ADD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Sensory Processing Disorders. CST aims to relieve tension patterns in the body and around the spinal cord and brain. CST relaxes the nervous system, improves brain function and can help children feel more comfortable, safe and aware in the world.
